Fire safety information saves lives. It's as simple as that.
Be it in your own home or at your workplace, educating one another and having clear markings of fire hazards and safety equipment can help to prevent injuries and reduce damages.
Even a small and contained fire can spread rapidly and produce fumes and smoke that can harm you within seconds.
FALCON's ABC Dry Powder Fire Extinguishers are multi-purpose extinguishers suitable for extinguishing Class A, B, C fires.
Dry Powder fire extinguishers are colour coded with a blue label. The dry powder extinguishes the fire by a chemical reaction with the flame. When it is applied to hot and smouldering surfaces, the particles swell to form a barrier to snuff out oxygen, from the source fire, chemically inhibiting combustion and expelling the oxygen thereby, smothering the flames.
In case you are wondering.. where should a fire extinguisher be located in a house?
Fire Extinguishers can be stored in the bedroom or placed along escape routes in the house. However, do make sure your fire extinguisher is in good working condition by checking the pressure gauge monthly.
Here at Home-Fix Online, we have a choice of a 1kg, 2kg or 3kg Fire Extinguisher.
To be honest, one of the most important steps that we should take as a homeowner is to protect our home from fires and smoke.
Smoke detectors are an important part of safety in the home and having them placed in various locations around our home allows for fast and effective detection. Once the smoke detector siren sounds, it will warn you that there is a potential fire. Hence, you would be able to quickly check the nature of the problem and hopefully, prevent any further damage.
The smoke detector that we carry here is FALCON's photoelectronic smoke detector.
Photoelectric sensors aim a light source into a sensing chamber at an angle away from the sensor. Smoke enters the chamber, reflecting light onto the light sensor; triggering the alarm. The photoelectric smoke detector can also detect fire at an earlier stage than a heat detector.
In the event that there is a false alarm, you can stop it by pressing a 'Test & Hush' button located at the centre of the smoke alarm. If you would like to test and see if your alarm works, you can also manually press the 'Test and Hush' button and hold for 3 seconds. However, do note that the base of the smoke detector is installed, with the cap properly closed before doing the test.
Smoke detectors are made to alert you of a fire and can save you in an emergency with its early detection of smoke.
In the event that a fire breaks in the kitchen, a fire blanket could be of great help to you. It is recommended to have this nearby, to put down the fire before it spreads. It is not advisable to throw water over your stove or pan, even if the flames are quite big. Fire blankets remove the oxygen supply from the fire, stopping it from spreading.
As a fire blanket is made of non-flammable materials, it could also come in handy when someone else's clothes catch fire. By wrapping the blanket around the person, to seal the fire from the air, which eventually helps to prevent further injuries to the person.
However, note that the fire blanket should not be used on live electrical equipment especially where high voltage is involved.
